Bulgaria's Schengen Ambitions Linked to Euro Adoption
Transport Minister Georgi Gvozdeikov revealed Bulgaria's prospects for full Schengen membership, linking it to the impending adoption of the euro
Bulgaria's Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications is to take over responsibility for the government's Flight Crew 28.
Bulgaria's government proposed amendments to the Civil Aviation Act stipulating the restructuring on Wednesday.
Flight Crew 28 is currently ran by the government.
The government argues that the Transport Ministry is better equipped to administrate the operations of Flight Crew 28 due to the experts at the Civil Aviation Administration Directorate.
The Transport Ministry continues to have the rights and obligations of a lessee under the contract for the supply of the government aircraft, yet the operator of the aircraft is Flight Crew 28, which may lead to problems with exercising rights and fulfilling obligations under the lease agreement, according to the government's press office.
When Flight Crew 28 is the responsibility of the Transport Minister and the Transport Ministry is the signatory to the lease agreement, it will be easier to monitor the exercising of control functions, according to the government.
The Transport Ministry is also in charge of the insurance of the aircraft, according to the government's press office.
Bulgaria's government took over control of Flight Crew 28 in 2010.
The activity of Flight Crew 28 is currently being investigated by an ad hoc parliamentary committee in connection with a scandal which broke out in 2012.
It was reported that the government aircraft had been used to fly Vitosha Bistritsa, the amateur football team of then- Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, and the team of Chavdar Etropole, to the Black Sea city of Varna for a friendly match on the government aircraft.
