Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
Bulgarians have gathered for the 26th day in a row in front of the Council of Ministers building in Sofia to demand the resignation of the socialist-led government of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski.
The traditional rally started at 6.30 pm on Independence square.
According to reports of the Interior Ministry by 7.30 pm, Tuesday's protest is attended by around 1200 people.
According to dnevnik.bg, the afternoon rain has reduced the number of protesters substantially.
The people keep chanting "Resign", "Red thrash" and "Mafia".
Over the past few days, the route of the rally has been changed, with protesters marching along Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd, instead of touring the headquarters of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms party, and the center-right GERB party.
The change is said to have been triggered by the willingness to emphasize the large number of people in attendance.
The series of anti-government protests in Bulgaria was triggered by the scandalous appointment of controversial media mogul Delyan Peevski as Chair of the State Agency for National Security (DANS).
Although the appointment was revoked, the people went on to demand that the cabinet resign collectively over ties with oligarchs.
Some protesters are also calling for Election Code amendments which will guarantee greater representation of the people in Parliament.
