The right-wing Democrats for Strong Bulgaria, DSB, are calling Friday on all members, supporters and followers, to join the protest rally against the election of a controversial MP for national security chief.

The Parliament voted Friday to approve Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski's nomination to have Delyan Peevski, Member of the Parliament from DPS to lead the country's National Security Agency, DANS.

Peevski was elected swiftly with the vote of MPs from his own party and the left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, and hastily took the oath of office.

In a declaration DSB stress that the choice is an arrogant demonstration how the mafia is ruling Bulgaria and of the successful attempt of those in power now to bring the State institutions on their knees before shady puppeteers.

"The goal of democracy is to protect the rights and the freedoms of citizens against criminal interests. Our rulers betrayed us; with their will criminals officially took over State institutions today. And today we must realize that we are not divided into liberals and conservatives, left and right wing, rulers and opposition; we are divided into citizens and the mafia. Let's stand firm together against the mafia. The current Parliament does not represent the people," the declaration reads.

Once the symbol of the right wing in Bulgaria, DSB failed to pass the 4% threshold in the May 12 early general elections to enter the Parliament.

Following the poor performance of the party, DSB leader and former Bulgarian Prime Minister Ivan Kostov, DSB Deputy Chair Radan Kanev and Petar Moskov announced that they were resigning.

On May 13, Kostov made clear that DSB's governing body would resign collectively on June 23 and the party's national council would elect a new leader and a new governing panel.

Kanev, in turn, suggested that Bulgarians with democratic beliefs had been left without representation in Parliament, which was an unheard-of situation.

Kostov named then Kanev as the nominee of the party's governing body for DSB Chair.

The protest rally is to take place at 6:30 pm Friday in front of the Council of Ministers in downtown Sofia.

Parallel rallies are to be staged the cities of Varna, Plovdiv, Lovech, Dimitrovgrad, Burgas, Pernik, Pleven, Blagoevgrad, Sliven, Stara Zagora, Ruse, Sandanski and Kazanlak, among others.

22 500 have signed the rally Facebook page so far.
