Bulgaria’s former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov told reporters that he was sad on his birthday because of the “current state of affairs in the country.”

Borisov, who turns 54 on Thursday, stated that the recently sworn-in Socialist-led government would “fail miserably.”

“Unfortunately for me, this will happen sooner or later,” Borisov said upon asked whether he would become Prime Minister once again.

He claimed that the new government’s rule would cause people to feel nostalgic about the achievements of his center-right GERB Cabinet (2009-2013).

Borisov told GERB lawmakers not to buy him any presents but instead asked them to collect money for charity.

“The birthday is a personal holiday, but I have not had a personal life for a long time,” he said.
