Bulgarian nationalist Ataka party, who are emerging as kingmakers of sorts in a political stalemate, have announced they will decide whether to back Plamen Oresharski's cabinet proposal just before the sitting of Parliament Wednesday.

Earlier Ataka had issued a statement, saying that the party's parliamentary group will decide on the proposal Tuesday evening.

Later front bench Ataka MP Yavor Notev told the Focus Information Agency that due to "changes that took place", the group will not decide until Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, Boyko Borisov, former PM and leader of the GERB party said his MPs will not register for the Wednesday vote, thus threatening the quorum for the sitting.

This has in effect left the presence of a constitutionally required quorum of 121 MPs out of 240 practically depending on the smallest political group, Ataka (23 MPs).

Mandate-carrier Bulgarian Socialist Party has 84 MPs and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, who said it will back Oresharski's project, has 36 MPs, which makes exactly 1 under the quorum requirement.

Borisov's GERB has the largest parliamentary group, 97 MPs, but the party did not table a cabinet proposal, as it did not have the support of any of the other 3 parties.

GERB similarly boycotted the election of a Speaker of Parliament at the 42nd Bulgarian National Assembly's convention last Tuesday, after their candidate Tsetska Tsacheva flopped.

Ataka, on their part, registered but failed to vote, however ensuring quorum for the election of socialist Mihail Mikov with the votes of the Socialists and the Movement.

This has led Borisov to accuse Ataka of behind-the-scenes arrangement with the other two parties, which Ataka's leader Volen Siderov said his party vehemently opposes.
