Bulgarian haulers have requested from the government to impose reciprocal restrictions for Turkish freighters, after talks between freighters from the two countries to resolve the traffic dispute failed.

Tuesday the chairs of the two Bulgarian organizations representing haulers - BASAT and AEBTRI - informed that talks have fallen through.

According to them, the Turkish side is to impose even stricter restrictions to Bulgarian freighters starting June 1.

Last week, Bulgarian caretaker Transport Minister, Kristian Krastev, met with Turkish counterpart, Binali Yildirim, in Leipzig, Germany, but their negotiations did not reach any conslusive decisions.

The traffic agencies of the two countries are to sign an agreement on the matter later on this week in Istanbul.

"We realized that everything comes from the personal ambition of the new chair of the Turkish haulers' organization UND to push all foreign freighters away from the Turkish market," said BASAT chair Mirolyub Stolarski for the Bulgarian Focus Information Agency.

According to Stolarski, the UND is even willing to act counter to international agreements.

BASAT and AEBTRI warned that if the two governments sign in Istanbul an agreement that is in breach of international treaties and Bulgarian haulers' interests, they will once again block the Bulgarian-Turkish border.
