Tsvetlin Yovchev, a former Chief of Staff of President Rosen Plevneliev, has been officially nominated for Interior Minister in Bulgaria’s next government.
Tsvetlin Yovchev was born on May 7 1964 in Pleven.
He graduated from the N.Y. Vaptsarov Naval Academy in Varna and later received a Master’s degree in Economy from Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski.
He also obtained a PhD in Scientific Information Theory.
In 1993, Tsvetlin Yovchev started working the National Security Service where he was consequently appointed as deputy director.
With the establishment of the State Agency for National Security (2007) he was assigned the position of General director to Counterintelligence General Directorate. In October 2008, he left the Agency.
On the 10th of August 2009, by virtue of Decree № 287 of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, with a proposal from the Council of Ministers, Tsvetlin Yovchev was appointed Chairperson of the State Agency for National Security.
On the 25th of February 2011, by virtue of he Decree № 39 of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria he was dismissed.
In 2012, Yovchev became Chief of Staff of newly elected President in Rosen Plevneliev. Yovchev resigned from that position in April 2013.
Yovchev possesses a good command of English and Russian. He is married and has one child.
