Bulgaria's National Construction Control Directorate (DNSK) has uncovered illegal construction works on the territory of the Thracian rock sanctuary Belintash.

The inspection showed that the construction of a guesthouse on a terrain on the territory of the village of Vrata violated the construction terms in the security zone of the Thracian rock sanctuary Belintash.

On May 18, DNSK officials launched an inspection on a tip-off about illegal construction on the territory of the archaeological site.

DNSK also found that the investment projects for the guesthouse had not been agreed with the Ministry of Culture in line with the requirements of the Cultural Heritage Act.

The inspectors issued a statement of findings for the halt of construction works.

After the 7-day objection period expires, an order to stop construction works on the site will be issued.
