Bulgaria's newly elected 42nd Parliament will hold its first sitting Tuesday morning under the temporary chairmanship of oldest MP, socialist Stefan Danailov.
The constitutional provision, which is also in place in other European countries and at the European Parliament, has it that the senior MP presides over sittings until the election of a permanent speaker.
Born on December 9, 1942, Danailov - a famous Bulgarian movie and theater actor also known by the nickname Lambo - is at 70 the oldest newly elected Bulgarian MP.
He has also served as Bulgaria's Minister of Culture in the 2005-9 tripartite coalition cabinet chaired by socialist leader Sergey Stanishev.
The plenary sitting of Bulgaria's 42nd Parliament, convened by President Rosen Plevneliev soon after the May 12 early general elections, will take place at 10 am EET Tuesday, 21 May.
The presiding senior MP is to give an opening speech, and all MPs are to solemnly swear in their new positions.
After that, President Plevneliev is to give an address to Parliament and the nation.
Parliamentary groups are also expected to deliver official speeches during the sitting, which will be aired on National TV and Radio.
Election results determined that 4 parties entered parliament: former ruling cente-right GERB - 97 MPs, the Bulgarian Socialist Party - 84 MPs, the liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms - 36 MPs, and nationalists Ataka - 23 MPs.
MPs are then to vote on a permanent speaker and deputy speakers, as well as on temporary rules of procedure.
GERB is expected to propose former parliament speaker Tsetska Tsacheva to re-assume thte position, while the Socialists have nominated former Minister of Interior Mihail Mikov.
Other parties are not expected to back GERB's candidate, while the Movement have already said they will support the bid of socialist MP Mikov.
