Bulgaria Grapples with Soaring Corruption Rates: New Report Reveals Shocking Data
Corruption in Bulgaria has soared to its third highest peak in history, according to a recent report by the Center for the Study of Democracy
The Director of Bulgaria's National Intelligence Agency, NRS, Dragomir Dimitrov, has been present during the scandalous conversation in the house of former Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, which was revealed through leaked wiretaps in Bulgarian media
The news emerged after Dimitrov was summoned by the Prosecutor's Office and appeared for questioning Thursday under increased security measures.
During the infamous conversation, former Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov, Borisov and already-former Sofia City Prosecutor Nikolay Kokinov, can be heard discussing options for obstructing proceedings against Naydenov who faces charges of corruption and malfeasance in office.
All three have been questioned already. Earlier Thursday, Chief Prosecutor, Sotir Tsatsarov, said that later in the day two other people will be questioned as well – former Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, and an unnamed fourth person, whose voice is heard in the audio file.
Tsvetanov arrived at the Prosecutor's Office first, while Dimitrov was spotted coming by journalists waiting for the former Interior Minister to come out.
In the recording, a voice is heard telling Borisov that the important guest from the intelligence has arrived.
