Sofia prosecutors have been given the task to probe the latest scandalous recording of former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov that has leaked in Bulgaria media.
The announcement was made for the media by Chief Prosecutor, Sotir Tsatsarov.
The recording was received anonymously by the Balkanleaks platform, modeled after the whistle-blowing site WikiLeaks.
The journalists from the investigative site Bivol.bg reported Wednesday that in the recording the leader of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, and former PM could be heart talking about distribution of "political parties' quotas" in municipal companies and securing winning bids in public tenders for firms close to those in power.
Bivol, however, points out the above practices, described by Borisov, are scandalous, but it is unclear if he is giving advice to followers to apply them or if he is criticizing such practices used by other political formations.
Tsatsarov said his office received the recording from some media, and it was of very poor technical quality. (Bivol announced Wednesday they have sent the audio file to the prosecution.)
"Today, my colleagues from the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office will decide if there are enough grounds to launch a probe. Many issues pop up here and the first one relates to the authenticity of the recording and suspicions of technical tempering," he explained.
The Chief Prosecutor warned against expectations his office will solve problems plaguing Bulgaria in the last 10 years with a magic wand in the course of several weeks. He, however, vowed the prosecution will continue to work very hard.
