Bulgaria's center-right party GERB terminated the party membership of former Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naydenov shortly after he accused former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov of illegal wiretapping of ministers of the previous government.

According to a media statement of GERB, the decision was approved by the executive committee of the party after "numerous calls of members and supporters of GERB from all over the country."

In an interview for the morning broadcast of bTV on Thursday, Naydenov accused former Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov of using special surveillance devices to illegally wiretap ministers of the GERB Cabinet.

Naydenov argued that the special surveillance devices had been deployed in order to create profiles of the cabinet members so as to be able to control them while they are in office and after their dismissal.

Bulgaria's former Agriculture Minister, as cited by dnevnik.bg, called on Tsvetanov, to withdraw from the parliamentary election race.

Tsvetanov, who is embroiled in a scandal concerning alleged widespread illegal wiretapping of politicians and businessmen during his term in office as Interior Minister, chairs the election HQ of GERB.
