Qatar is ready to receive Bulgarian specialists in the sphere of renewable energy and energy efficiency, as well as suppliers of construction materials and components, according to reports of the press office of the Bulgarian Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works.

The announcement came after a meeting of Bulgaria's caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Regional Development Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva with Sheikh Abdul Rahman Bin Khalifa, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning and Mohammed Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Industry and Energy in Qatar.

"Bulgaria and Qatar are strategic partners in political and business affairs and my visit to Doha is proof of the continuity in the government policies on the key priorities," Zaharieva was quoted as saying by the press office of the Regional Development Ministry.

A meeting of Zaharieva with Sheikh Jassim bin AbdulAziz bin Jassim bin Hamad AlThani, Minister of Business and Trade revealed that Bulgaria and Qatar were getting ready for the second sitting of the joint committee for economic and trade partnership scheduled to take place at the end of the year in Sofia.

Qatar's Minister of Business and Trade expressed willingness to head a delegation during his visit to Bulgaria, adding that this would be yet another opportunity for direct contacts between Bulgarian and Qatari companies.

Bulgaria's caretaker Deputy Prime Minister discussed opportunities for boosting bilateral trade and outlined key industries which were ready to export Bulgarian products to Qatar, including food and agricultural products, construction materials, electrical and electronic appliances, etc.

The agenda of the meeting also included a discussion of opportunities for joint projects in the sphere of research and innovations, according to the media statement of Bulgaria's Regional Development Ministry.

During a meeting with Sheikh Abdul Rahman Bin Khalifa, Zaharieva demanded that Bulgarian companies be treated on an equal footing with leading international construction firms with offices in Qatar.

Zaharieva informed that the Bulgarian Construction Chamber was opening a representation in Doha to assist the participation of Bulgarian firms in infrastructure projects in Qatar.

During the talks, Qatari Ministers showed interest in Bulgarian suppliers of construction materials and components.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman Bin Khalifa stated his support for the upcoming twinning of Sofia and Doha in mid-May 2013, voicing hopes that other Bulgarian cities would also show interest in twinnings with municipalities in Qatar.

During a meeting with Qatari Minister of Energy and Industry Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Zaharieva presented opportunities for assistance by Bulgarian experts in the sphere of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.

Stressing that the development of renewable energy projects was part of the long-term strategy f the country, Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada noted that Bulgarian specialists were welcome in Qatar.

Bulgaria's caretaker Deputy Prime Minister mentioned that the country had almost achieved its 16% renewable energy target by 2020, adding that the current rate was 12%.

Zaharieva argued that Bulgarian experts had gathered experience and expertise on an international level in the spheres of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency in the past eight years and the country was ready to offer assistance to Qatar.
