US Ambassador in Sofia Marcie Ries has issued Wednesday a special statement thanking Bulgarian people for the support in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon tradegy.

"I very much appreciate the many expressions of support and condolence we have received from Bulgarians from all walks of life regarding the victims of the tragic attack in Boston on Monday. There are special ties between Boston and Bulgaria, and your notes and letters are source of comfort and support to all Americans during this difficult time," the diplomat's note reads.

The Monday afternoon deadly explosions in downtown Boston near the marathon's finish line killed 3 people and injured 176.

About half of the wounded (80 people) remain in hospitals, while 17 are still in critical condition.

8 000 to 10 000 Bulgarians live in the Boston area.

A number of them were nearby at the time of the blasts, but miraculously no Bulgarians have been injured.

A young Bulgarian woman working in Boston has been just meters away from one of the devices exploding in the heart of the city. Another Bulgarian survived by miracle, as one of the bombs exploded near his car. He was a participant in the marathon and after crossing the finish line went to his car. The bomb has exploded behind his back.

US Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano has stated that the deadly explosions in were not part of a broader plot.

The statement came in the aftermath of information from the investigation that the bombs used in the Boston Marathon tragedy may have been pressure cookers hidden in backpacks.

According to FBI, no one has so far declared responsibility for the bloody act, and the motives and the suspects remain unknown, which reaffirms as top lead the perpetrator having acted alone and not being part of a large terrorist organization.
