The European People's Party, EPP, has supported and will always support the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, pledged Joseph Daul, Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament.
Daul delivered a speech at GERB's national conference in Sofia.
"We support you, dear Boyko! In times of hardship and a serious economic crisis, the most important is to act together; stay united, coordinate our efforts. We are at a crossroad – to continue to build a more efficient and safe Europe, or close our doors and set on the path of demagogy and populism," Daul stated.
He stressed the crisis could be fought successfully through sound investments and well-managed public finances.
"I remember how the EU froze funding for Bulgaria during the term of the Three-Way Coalition. Now, I saw the metro; saw the construction of many kilometers of highways. Bravo GERB, bravo Boyko," the EP EPP Chairman declared.
At the conference, former Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, and GERB leader made his first public appearance in a long time.
The conference started at 1 pm in Sofia's Arena Armeets new and modern multifunctional facility, opened during Borisov's term.
Nearly 15 000 party members and supporters are attending.

In his speech at the beginning of the conference, Uhl greeted Borisov and Tsvetanov, telling them they deserved to celebrate on election night.
On Saturday, Lopez-Isturiz called on all Bulgarians to vote for GERB in order to preserve the stability of the country.
Borisov and his GERB Cabinet resigned on February 21 amidst unprecedented since 1997 mass protest rallies against poverty, stagnation and political corruption. Snap general elections will be held on May 12, just two months ahead of the regularly scheduled date.
