Bozhidar Danev, Chair of the Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA), has suggested that the lack of jobs is a major problem of the country.

In a Wednesday interview for the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA), Danev claimed that the problem would be solved through investments and the creation of quality and sustainable jobs.

The BIA Chair claimed that emigration was not the right way to solve the problem with growing unemployment.

"No government since the beginning of the so-called transition period has paid attention to the fact that national revenue is being diverted from the country while activities carrying a high added value are being stopped," he noted, adding that this had resulted in the low incomes of Bulgarians.

Danev argued that Bulgaria had become hypnotized by EU funding, stressing that no country could prosper if it failed to develop its own resources and only depended on the influx of donors' money.

He said that the major political risk and the unpredictability had made the business sector adopt a very cautious approach and withdraw its active participation in the economy.

The BIA Chair insisted on a substantial decrease in fees, claiming that the business sector had been pressured by a range of taxes and fees which kept changing according to an unpredictable pattern.

Danev drew attention to the fact that it was mainly employers who shouldered the risk of the economic crisis, adding that the existing attitude towards them in Bulgaria and the growing demands placed upon them eroded the foundations of the economy.

The BIA Chair argued that the only solution for the heavy industry involved cooperation with large-scale producers on a global scale.

He said that Bulgaria had to involve in end-product manufacturing and ensure environmental protection guarantees.
