Historical Bulgarian Town Sustains 'Hurricane' Damage

About 500 acres of pine forests have been destroyed by hurricane-like winds that ravaged the Bulgarian historical town of Koprivshtitsa Friday into Saturday.
There are no reported injuries, but in addition to many fallen pine trees, widespread building damage is reported. The entire town experienced a 24-hour power outage. Teams of CEZ power utility are still repairing power lines.
Locals say even the elderly do not remember such strong storm. They are now terrified by the forecast of new gusty winds this week.
The Sofia Regional Governor is expected to visit Koprivshtitsa on Monday. Damage assessment also starts Monday.
The storm has caused serious and large-scale damage at the town's architectural and historical part, closing several museums. The most serious destruction is reported at the home-museum of poet Dimcho Debelyanov.
