Prominent gymnast Yordan Yovchev has been tipped to become Bulgaria's Deputy Sports Minister, according to a local media report.

The Standart daily has claimed that Yovchev will be announced as newly appointed Sports Minister Petar Stoychev's deputy on Friday.

Sources have told the paper that the famous gymnast was initially among the candidates considered for the post of caretaker Sports Minister.

Yovchev is a four-times world champion and the first ever male gymnast to compete in six Olympic Games. He is now the president of his country's gymnastics federation.

The center-right government of PM Boyko Borisov resigned amid massive anti-poverty protests in February, prompting President Rosen Plevneliev to adjourn the Parliament, appoint a caretaker Cabinet and schedule snap elections for May 12.
