The Members of the Parliament from the Economic Committee rejected Tuesday the draft proposal for measures to reduce electric power prices and secure basic needs of power consumers.
The proposal was submitted by Mihail Mikov, former Interior Minister and MP from the opposition Coalition for Bulgaria, led by the left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP.
Under it, the Council of Ministries and the State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation, DKEVR, were to ban electric power distributors from cutting electricity of consumers who have not paid their bills and introduce a base price for it.
The deadline was May, 2013.
Five MPs have voted for and eleven have abstained.
However, it is expected the proposal will be debated in plenary hall, as the Speaker of the Parliament, Tsetka Tsacheva, pledged to include in the agenda, regardless of the decision of the Economic Committee.
On February 21, Bulgaria's Parliament approved the resignation of the government of Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, and his ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, amidst the unprecedented since 1997 protest rallies against the unbearable utility bills, the monopolies and the wide-spread poverty, which later turned into a civil unrest and political demands.
Snap general election is to be held May 12, just two months ahead of the regular date in July.
President, Rosen Plevneliev, is to name the caretaker government at 4 pm.
