Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Sergey Stanishev has declared that he will not become the country's next Prime Minister even if his party wins the upcoming snap election.
"No matter the outcome of the snap election, I will not be the next Prime Minister," he told reporters Wednesday.
Stanishev, who is the President of the Party of European Socialists and a former Bulgarian PM (2005-2009), declared that he did not want power just for the sake of it.
On Wednesday, BSP expectedly expectedly returned the mandate it received for the formation of an interim government.
It has been already made clear that none of the three largest parliamentary groups are willing to form an interim government.
Once all three parties officially reject the interim government mandate, President Rosen Plevneliev will have to appoint a caretaker government, and, with one single decree, adjourn the Parliament and schedule a new general election.
The caretaker government will be appointed by Plevneliev next week. Its term will be up to two months, with its main task being the organization of snap election. The snap election will be held no later than mid-May.
