Bulgarians' Incomes Rise Sharply, But Spending Follows Close Behind
According to the latest figures from the National Statistical Institute, household incomes and expenses in Bulgaria continued their upward trajectory in 2024
Leaders of the demonstrators who have staged large-scale protest rallies for ten days across the country against high utility bills are calling once again on political parties in Bulgaria to not attempt to use the protests for political gains.
At a special emergency press conference of Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, and Regional Minister, Lilyana Pavlova, the organizers of the rallies reiterated the demonstrations are a form of civil discontent and have not been politically inspired.
The civil activists further called on all participants to refrain from vandalism since it not only reflects badly on them, but citizens will be those who will have to pay for the damage at the end.
They said the protests were not against the Cabinet of the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, but against the political model imposed after the fall of Communism in 1989.
The organizers, however, blamed GERB for not prosecuting and bringing to justice those responsible for the deplorable state of the country, including senior officials, which was one of the top pledges that brought GERB to power in 2009.
