Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has claimed that an Israeli air strike on a military research center near Damascus aimed at destabilizing his country.

"This aggression exposes the real role being undertaken by Israel in collaboration with hostile external powers and their tools on the Syrian land to destabilize Syria and weaken it," Assad declared on Sunday, as cited by SANA and RIA Novosti.

The Syrian government has said that Israeli jets bombed a defense research center near Damascus earlier this week.

Earlier on Sunday, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak appeared to acknowledge for the first time that Israel carried out the attack.

Do rest, Peter, but do not interfere (not You, sure, but...You understand). Simple.

peterperfect - 8 Feb 2013 // 08:53:41

Anyone who saw Assad interviewd on TV last year has all the evidence they need to be convinced he has lost the plot and is totally out of reality. Not my say so, not anyone else's, not rumour nor scaremongering but from his own mouth. I rest my case.

First, Assad have to deal with the new position of Syria and then he must leave the people to decide the future of the country.
Second, he stop blaming Israel for his incompetence.
Third, if he wont decide to deliver power, his end will be the same as Sadam Hussein and Muammar Gadhaffi.

Losing Touch, no, but the reality at the security of the United States, Europe and the Middle East.

If al-Qaeda and Hamas controls the Northern Borders of Israel following with Gaza and Egypt, the domino effect of Jordan, one sees Israel's back to the sea.

Now where did I hear this before, oh yes, the 1967 and 1973 Israeli Wars.

The Northern border of Israel controlled by al-Qaeda and Hamas will but the United States and its Allies at a risk with the Syrian Iraq Border that leads to Mosul.

Now are the Bulgarian Troops ready for this type of confrontation and my answer is NO.

OOh, Peter..."Sa-Sha, loosing reality again."---Right! even more than that: I'm permanently OUT of such reality.
And the exclusive pearl: "No, I am right, Assad destabalised the country by refusing to meet with the opposition."---calm down, Peter,please.....You-as well as USA, UK, Turkey, Arabs-are right again.......
The only humble question from poor me: who INTERFERES into the
independent foreign State life and who (not "rebels", sure, Peter?)
"refuses to even speak to...".
And without repeating the well known to the whole world: "Russians are the legitimate targets for military attacks in Syria-from the approved by USA&Co "opposition"- in Syria", I would offer You, Peter, to wait till the Assad'reply to the recent Moazal-Khatib(president of "Syrian Opposition Coalition") offer, bearing in mind that Assad was waiting for that very "opposition" reply for more than 1(!) year. Best.

Sa-Sha, loosing reality again. Fact, Assad refused to even speak to (what was at the beginning) a moderate group who wanted change in Syria. Fact, this group actually went public and said they had no argument with Assad and wanted him to remain. Fact, it was Assad's intransigence (and his regime of course) that started the actual violence, just as in Egypt, the government under cover agents went in with fists flying. What happened after that was a steady increase in violence on both sides. If Assad (and his cronies) had had the sense to see what had happened in other Arab countries they could have avoided all the bloodshed, gone to the table and given up some power (that is the real problem, power corrupts and no-one with it wants to let any go) and meet some demands of the opposition we might now be in a totally different situation. Protest (and it was very peaceful until the government thugs waded in) should not be viewed as a threat, dialog will have to take place at some time so why not avoid all the blood? at the beginning, view protest as a chance for a new start. No, I am right, Assad destabalised the country by refusing to meet with the opposition.

sa-sha - 4 Feb 2013 // 13:59:14

Wake up, Peter.............................................................
Assad is the TARGET, while the Real Destabilizers are: USA, UK, Arab Monarchies, Turkey...They spit on UN Charter, they "modify" Security Council' Resolutions at their own discretion (Libya), they use their bludgeon "NATO" for sowing chaos and death (or people of Irak, Afghan, Libya...became happy "at last"?). Now---in violation of all international norms, rules and laws---they supply weapon, munition, mercenaries, instructors, money to the thugs-"rebels"(whose leaders---recognized by USA+ as "the only legitimate representative of the Syrian people", btw---proclaimed Russians as "legitimate targets for military attacks in Syria"!!! with FULL wise silence-support from USA, UK, etc ). So, who are the Real Destabilizers-Violators?
It's time to stop UNLAWFUL interference. Do concentrate on Your own States (USA, UK, Turkey etc) problems. Do end the shameful ILLEGAL support of the thugs-"rebels". Stop sowing Your "Democracy" in foreign fields.....................................

Ivanko - 4 Feb 2013 // 13:32:57

Go and tell that to the non muslims in Syria!

Assad was the stabilizing factor in not only Syria but big part of the region. But apparently the West finds it more important to support terrorists. Many of them who come from other countries into the country through the borders with Turkey!

peterperfect - 4 Feb 2013 // 11:18:19

Assad is the destabiliser, no-one else.

Ivanko - 3 Feb 2013 // 23:21:53

You cannot loose what you never had.

Support Assad! About the only one really fighting terrorists.
When he goes down they will very quickly start eying Europe.

All war fighters/supporters out. Including politicians. Europe will look a lot more peaceful after that.

Yane - 3 Feb 2013 // 23:13:28

I'm sorry, but Hillary Clinton herself admitted that Al Qaida was in Syria doing terrorist attacks, Jerry, the question is, are YOU loosing touch with reality?

Jerry - 3 Feb 2013 // 22:38:43

It has come to a point that Assad has to decide whether al-Qaeda is the instability factor or Lebanese Hamas and now Israel.

Assad has lost contact with reality and a persecution syndrome does not run governments but fantasy can destroy.
