Bulgaria plans to fully implement next year the much needed and long-delayed e-government project.

"The project will enable electronic data exchange between over 30 public registers," Deputy Transport Minister Valeri Borisov announced at the eighth forum on innovations and competitiveness, which took place on Tuesday in Sofia.

E-government services are expected to help reduce costs by BGN 80 M per year and increase efficiencies for government agencies and citizens.

Bulgaria's Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski signed in May this year contracts with three contractors on the e-government project.

The total value of the project is BGN 18 M and the first results are expected in Sofia-based units.

The e-government project is financed under the Administrative Capacity Operational Program.

Information Services AD, a public limited company majority owned by Bulgaria's Finance Ministry, is expected to become the leading unit in the implementation of the e-government scheme.

Deputy Minister Valeri Borisov, who holds the Information Technology portfolio, is about to be included in the company's managing body.
