Bulgarian Finance Minister Simeon Djankov has revealed the mystery behind the fact that he was not included in the Financial Times 2012 ranking of EU's top 19 Ministers of Finance.

The Finance Minister of EU's poorest member state has stated that the ranking simply does not include the bloc's eight smallest economies.

"If you take a look at the last 7 rankings, you will see that neither Bulgaria, nor Estonia (are included)," Djankov told reporters on Wednesday.

He claimed that that his finance policy would otherwise secure the country a spot in "Top 3, or at least Top 5."

The Financial Times 2012 ranking of EU's Ministers of Finance was published in November and was topped by champion of austerity, German Federal Minister of Finance Wolfgang Schaeuble.

In the Top Five, he is then followed by Sweden's Andreas Borg, Poland's Jacek Rostowski, Finland's Jutta Urpilainen, and Ireland's Michael Noonan.

Upon asked by reporters Wednesday whether pensioners will receive any Christmas bonuses this year, Djankov said that he was "not a populist."
