Bulgarian PM Visit to US Is Missed Opportunity - Ex-FM
Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov has failed to achieve any significant results for his country during his ongoing visit to the US, according to former Bulgarian Foreign Affairs Minister Solomon Passy.
"Borisov's meeting with US President Barack Obama and other leaders just means many missed opportunities for Bulgaria," said Passy Tuesday.
The former Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs said that Bulgarian leaders failed to achieve progress on lifting the US visa regime, to gather US help in Bulgaria's Schengen bid, and to propose a major joint strategic project with the US.
"The fact that Bulgaria has been America's ally in five wars during the last 23 years is a huge investment that has been left unused," argued Passy.
He did not specify which those "five wars" were.
According to Passy, it would be "only natural" if Bulgaria is in fact a good ally to the US, that the US liberalize entry for Bulgarian citizens and offer support for Bulgaria's Schengen accession.
