Bulgarian authorities found themselves grappling with a peculiar case involving a 60-year-old Ukrainian woman
Former Smolyan regional police head Alexander Savov has won a case for privacy infringement against Bulgaria the Strasbourg Human Rights Court.
Savov complained to the court that while he was serving as the head of the regional police unit, his phone was tapped.
The Strasbourg Court found that the permission for surveillance was issued in accordance with Bulgarian regulations.
But it also found that this infinged Savov's privacy without giving him adequate regulatory means to counteract.
Bulgaria has to pay the former police chief EUR 4,500 in indemnities, as well as to cover EUR 2,000 on the trial.
