Bulgaria will ask an additional EUR 0.5 B for infrastructure for the 2014 – 2020 period, says Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov.
Borisov spoke Tuesday from Brussels where he is attending the summit of the leaders of 15 EU Member States, which is held on the backdrop of ongoing negotiations and negative forecasts for the next multiple-year budget.
"The most unfavorable thing that could happen is for us to get as much money as we have gotten until now or even less if this fiscal frame is rejected. We, of course, will fight to get another EUR 500 M for infrastructure. We understand rich countries, donor States – they have their internal issues, but the cohesion policy helps the entire Europe, not just some particular countries. Bulgaria absorbs EU funds mostly for infrastructure and administrative capacity and is a positive example in this direction," the PM, cited by the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR, stated.
He further pointed out that goods and cargo coming from Europe and going to Asia, Africa and other continents use Bulgarian highways, bridges, and railroads.
Borisov pledged that by the end of 2013, Bulgaria will manage to absorb all EU funds slated for it in the current fiscal frame.
