The airport in Bulgaria's second largest city of Plovdiv is eager to launch flights to Middle Eastern destinations, it has been made clear.

Negotiations have been started with several low-cost Middle Eastern airline carriers willing to launch flights to Plovdiv, Plovdiv airport CEO Doychin Angelov has told Bulgarian reporters.

He added that talks have started with two Turkish airline carriers regarding the potential launch of new air routes connecting Plovdiv and Turkish cities.

A Spanish airline company is also interested in flying to Plovdiv, Angelov said.

Angelov recently took part in the 18th World Route Development Forum in Abu Dhabi.
