Two Bulgarian nationals have been arrested in the port city of Bari, Italy, while attempting to transport out of the country tons of toxic waste.
The news was reported by the Italian newspaper Libero Quotidiano, writing the 3.5 metric tons of toxic waste belonged to the company Vibo Valentia, with the Bulgarians having to export them to their country.
The waste's disposal and destruction would be harmful to the environment, according to the publication.
The minivan, loaded with the toxic substances, had been confiscated by Italian Customs employees. They also found automobile spare parts and are checking to see if they had been stolen.
