Bulgaria has the potential to become the country with the highest Internet speed in Europe, according to EU Digital Agenda Commissioner Neelie Kroes.

Kroes is in Sofia on Thursday, where she is taking part in a conference entitled "Digital Agenda for Europe: Reality ot Still a Challenge."

Complex procedures are in place in many European countries which render their adjustment to the digital era more difficult, the European Commissioner has said, as cited by Bulgarian media.

She noted that Bulgaria has the potential to get ahead of these countries, since it does not have such obstacles.

Communities should be aware of the advantages of broadband Internet and cloud computing, she said during the conference.

According to Kroes, broadband Internet is vital for the EU economy.

She also underlined the importance of digital literacy within the bloc, reminding that it is required for almost 90% of all jobs.
