The idea to relocate the Customs Agency to the Danube city of Ruse is a good one and the Cabinet is far from giving up on it, according to Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov.
The Deputy PM visited Monday Ruse to officially open the school year at the European Languages School. Speaking from there, he stated the process of moving the Customs will start in a month to a month and a half.
Djankov further informed the Executive Agency for Fishery and Aquacultures will be moved from Sofia to the Black Sea City of Burgas by October 15.
The Minister explained that the decentralization process has been slowed down due to the summer season, but will now continue full force. He was adamant the Customs will be in Ruse by the end of October.
Djankov stressed the plan is moving along fine and since the last sitting of the Cabinet another 60 000 people are being relocated around the country. The second wave is to be expected in a month to a month in a half, including the Customs and the National Revenue Agency, NRA.
The Ministry of Finance is still looking for a building in Ruse to house the Customs Agency and is considering four options, he informed, but declined to elaborate, just rejecting the option of leasing a building at the Ruse Business Park.
The idea to relocate State institutions is a top priority brainchild of Djankov. The Customs were scheduled to be first to be relocated.
In May, however, over 80% of the Customs employees and those from NRA signed a petition against the plan and submitted it with the Council of Ministers

While in Ruse, Djankov also broke grounds of the new sports facility at the European Languages School for which the government slated BGN 1 M and opened the school year at the city's university.
