Libyan authorities say 50 people have been arrested in connection with last week's deadly attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, during which the US Ambassador to the country was killed.
Mohamed Magarief, president of Libya's interim assembly, has told CBS News that he believes last week's deadly attack in Benghazi was premeditated.
"It was planned, definitely, it was planned by foreigners, by people who entered the country a few months ago, and they were planning this criminal act since their arrival," he stated.
However, Magarief's statment contradicts US envoy to the UN Susan Rice who has stated that the evidence suggested it was a spontaneous protest hijacked by well-armed extremists.
Last week, an attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, said to be triggered by a film deemed offensive to Muslims, killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens, 3 other officers, and several Libyans.
The film, which portrays Prophet Muhammad as a religious cheat and a womanizer, has sparked violent protests in many Muslim countries and in Europe over the recent days.
