The explosion that occurred Tuesday in Arsenal Kazanlak, one of the largest military plants in Bulgaria, has been caused by spontaneous combustion of factory produce, according to the police.

The blast of an Arsenal Kazalak storage facilty occurred at about 4:35 pm on Tuesday, according to the Bulgarian Interior Ministry; it caused extensive material damages but did not hurt any people, BGNES reported.

It led immediately to a fire in the storehouse at Arsenal Kazanlak, Bulgaria's major producer of rifles and AK-47s.

As the fire was put out, the police said the explosion at the Arsenal Kazanlak military plant was caused by spontaneous combustion of half-made factory produce containing nitrocellulose as it was left out to dry.

The management of the military plant located in the Central Bulgarian town of Kazanlak has not been available for commenting on the incident.

A mobile laboratory of Bulgaria's Civic Protection Service has tested the air in the area of the military factory, and has not found any contamination.

The blasted storage facility in Arsenal Kazanlak is to be watched by fire fighters on duty over the night.
