Will Bulgaria Have a Stable Government After Yet Another Election in June? Our Readers Have Spoken
On our Facebook page, readers were asked about Bulgaria's stability after the June elections
Bulgaria's President, Rosen Plevneliev, voiced Sunday serious alarm from recent attempts to restore the image of the Communist regime in misinterpreting history.
Speaking for the media, the President stressed that the Communist regime turned Bulgaria into a totalitarian State, led the country to three economic disasters and bankruptcy, and was guilty of several national treasons.
On another subject, Plevneliev touched again on the thorny subject with neighboring Macedonia, reiterating that during their recent meeting in Brussels, his Macedonian counterpart, George Ivanov, had been adamant that history should be left to historians while Macedonia will use European practices in maintaining good neighborly relations with Bulgaria.
"I expect from Macedonian politicians concrete actions and proof they will launch new initiatives and designate the best European practices as they have declared last week. Bulgaria and Brussels will keep a close eye to see if the Macedonian approach will indeed change. Bulgaria is the leader among the well-intended countries towards Macedonia and the first one to recognize the Macedonian Republic," the President stressed.
Earlier in the day, Plevneliev gave the official start of the 62nd bicycle tour of Bulgaria, saying his entire family are avid bickers, having six bicycles at home and that he bikes four times a week despite his busy agenda.
"I am proud this tour is among the top ones in Europe, along with those in Italy, France and Belgium, and it enjoys well-deserved international prestige," said he.
