Bulgaria’s Employment Strategy Struggles to Shift Focus from Temporary Subsidies to Long-Term Skills

The Bulgarian Danube city of Ruse is now the host of the 22nd Limes Congress.
Beginning Thursday, the Congress includes 300 archaeologists from 15 countries, whose scientific works is focused on the history of the Roman Empire.
The forum comes to Bulgaria for the very first time under the patronage of the National Archaeology Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, BAS.
Speaking for the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR, the Director of the Institute, Lyudmil Vagalinski says that the Congress showcases Bulgaria on the UNESCO map and will attract EU financing.
"This is our main goal, so that Europe can see that Bulgaria can organize such events, can preserve and present its heritage with the help of local municipalities. We are capable, predictable and reliable partners with beautiful sites and monuments; we have a vision, and plan to use correctly EU funds," stressed he.
Vagalinski explained that experts on Roman archaeology from a number of European countries, including Bulgaria, are working on projects to add new sites to the UNESCO cultural and historical heritage list.
The Bulgarian government has allocated 2.2 million leva for archaeological research and conservation of historical sites, as part of the state budget implementation for 2025
