Bulgaria to Keep Tourism Security Measures after Burgas Bus Bombing

The measures for the security of foreign tourists that Bulgaria introduced after the July 18 Burgas Bus Bombing will become permanent, Bulgarian Minister of Economy, Energy, and Tourism Delyan Dobrev told the families of the victims of the terrorist attack.

"Together with the intelligence services of the State of Israel we are analyzing security at key spots in Bulgaria, and will apply more measures to boost it," Dobrev told relatives of the five Israelis killed in the Burgas Bus Bombing.

The July 18, 2012, terrorist attack at Sarafovo Airport near Bulgaria's Burgas cost the lives of five Israeli tourists and one Bulgarian driver; the perpetrators of the attack remain unknown forty days later, as Bulgaria and Israel honored the memory of the victims in a memorial in Sofia Tuesday night.

Dobrev has once again offered the condolences of the Bulgarian government and people to the Israelis, and has assured them that the Bulgarian authorities are doing everything possible to identify and punish the perpetrators of the Burgas Bus Bombing.

"Bulgaria and Israel are two nations with friendly ties, and there is no way such barbarity can overwhelm our connection. Tourism is only part of these friendly ties," the minister said.

Dobrev pointed out that in 2013 Bulgaria and Israel will celebrate the 70th year since the heroic rescue of the Bulgarian Jews from the Holocaust, a proud page in Bulgaria's history.

"Our cooperation will continue more actively than ever in all spheres of mutual interest, and this will be our response to terrorism," he stated.
