The Bulgarian Air Force has started its annual anti-aircraft drills near the Black Sea town of Shabla in Northeastern Bulgaria, the Defense Ministry announced Tuesday.

Unlike previous years, however, when they featured participation by Serbia, the Shabla 2012 anti-aircraft drills in Northeastern Bulgaria are held only the Bulgarian Air Force.

The exercises focus on testing the anti-aircraft missile complexes of the Bulgarian military; the first day of the drills featured ZU-23-2 "Sergey" anti-aircraft twin-barreled autocannons.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Bulgarian Air Force, Maj. Gen. Konstantin Popov, is in charge of the Shabla 2012 drills.
