German federal Chancellor Angela Merkel is expected to press for a new EU Treaty to boost integration at an upcoming European Council.

However, the German Chancellor is facing feeble interest to that effect on the part of leaders of other EU countries, writes the Spiegel.

Merkel is expected to propose a date for negotiations on the matter, which is to be approved at the December European Counicl.

On of the German Chancellor's proposal is said to concern the powers of the European Court of Justice to monitor budget discipline among EU members.

In the last few months Merkel has repeatedly stressed on what she has described as the need for "more Europe" to meet the challenges of the financial crisis in the eurozone.
