Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has picked up a compassion of the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) with AIDS to mock his rivals.

After on Friday, Anton Kutev, a senior BSP functionary, stated that socialism is "like AIDS", on Saturday Borisov mockingly declared he had ordered the Executive Commission of the ruling center-right party GERB to come up with rules for protection from AIDS/BSP.

"I have ordered the Executive Commission of GERB and the deputy chair of the party Tsvetan Tsvetanov to draft and send to all GERB offices around the country a letter explaining to the party members how to protect themselves from AIDS/BSP," Borisov told the Focus news agency Saturday.

"It is very important to avoid any contacts, and to take precautions in order to avoid the AIDS/BSP infection. Especially after the public announcements about the advanced form of this illness in this party in spite of its 100 years," Borisov went further in mocking the Socialists.

The scandal in which Kutev, the BSP Media Policy Secretary and one of the most seasoned functionaries of the GERB party, likened the party to AIDS, occurred in the absence of party chair and PES President Sergey Stanishev, who was on a visit in Lithuania.

In a media statement, Korniliya Ninova, a BSP MP, urged Kutev to apologize for his gaffe.
