One of Bulgaria's major Danube ports, Port Lom, boasts record volumes of cargo processed since the beginning of 2012.

Port Lom processed 83 947 tons of cargo in July only.

In the first seven months of 2011, Port Lom processed a total of 285 323 tons of cargo, up by 11% from 2011.

Increases were registered in most types of cargo, the highest spikes registered in cereals, coal, artificial fertilizers, and metals, according to data of Bulgaria's Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications.

An ongoing grains campaign has yielded excellent results, with a total of 105 066 tons of grains exported through Port Lom, more than twice the volume in 2011.

The good results continue in August, with 37 997 tons of grain were processed in the first 20 days of August, up by around 10 000 tons from the same period in 2011.

Port Lom is currently processing seven ships with different types of cargo.

By the end of August, another 10 000 tons of high-quality Bulgarian grains are to be exported through the port.
