Winter Tourism: 1.8 Million Visit Bulgaria
Bulgaria has witnessed a bustling winter tourism season, with a total of 1.8 million tourists gracing its picturesque landscapes from December 1 to March 25
The end of the summer tourist season is bringing cheaper prices for Bulgarian Black Sea vacations, reports say.
As of August 20, 2012, most hotel owners along Bulgaria's Black Sea coast promise discounts of between 15% and 30%, the Presa daily reported.
"These discounts will be in place until September 10, where there will be another drop of 20%. Thus, between September 10 and the official end of the season on October 10, holidaymakers can have a vacation for 50% off compared with the busiest time of the summer season in July," explains Rumen Draganov, head of the Institute for Analysis and Estimates in Tourism.
"Regardless of whether the weather is warm, or whether the summer lasts long, these are rules that we adhere to because these are the contracts that we signed with tour operators the year before," explains in turn Elena Ivanova, chair of the Union of Owners in the Sunny Beach resort.
"The aim of all this is to try to extend the summer season at least until October 20," comments Blagoy Ragin, chair of the Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Owners' Association.
