Bulgarian Ship Detained in Istanbul

A Bulgarian ship, owned by Doychin Doychev, who had another of his ships detained in Spain with 3 tons of cocaine, is being held in Istanbul.

According to reports, the incident has nothing to do with the prior cocaine incident, and is motivated by debts for fuel.

The Varna 5 ship is similar to the Sv. Nikolay ship detained Thursday in Spain and is again staffed by a Bulgarian crew.

According to Bulgaria's sea administration in Varna, such stoppings of ships due to debts are regular practice.

Saturday Bulgaria's prosecution charged Doychev over the arrested ship carrying cocaine suspected to be intended for traffic from Latin America to Europe.
