Bulgaria's State Agriculture Fund (SAF) has approved projects worth over BGN 17.5 M under Measure 121 for the Modernization of Agricultural Holdings.

The SAF has for the first time given the green light to 14 bio producers who invested in new plantations, according to the SAF's press office.

The applicants for subsidies plan to plant gardens with almonds, cherries, plums and linden.

The SAF has also approved subsidies for artichoke growers.

For the first time EU subsidies will be granted to agricultural holdings undergoing a transition from conventional to organic farming systems.

The two applicants for subsidies under the scheme plan to grow lavender and hazelnuts.

The SAF has also approved other investment projects in the sphere of horticulture aimed at purchasing gardening equipment.

The other half of the approved projects has been submitted by livestock breeders who are investing in modernization.

The SAF has approved investment proposals for manure disposal, for purchasing milking machines and other equipment.

Two poultry breeders plan to expand their broiler farms.

15 of the approved projects are aimed at preventing nitrate water contamination.
