Bulgarians living permanently abroad have sent back EUR 407.9 M to their families in Bulgaria in the first six months of 2012, according to data of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB).

In comparison, foreign direct investments in the country in H1, 2012 amounted to as little as EUR 221.4 M.

Migrant's remittances in June amounted to EUR 68.9 M, down by over EUR 9 M from May, when they reached a record monthly level for 2012, at EUR 78.2 M.

Bulgarians living permanently abroad returned EUR 402 M for the first six months of 2011.

The average monthly amount of migrants' remittances in the period January-June 2012 amounted to EUR 67.98 M, while for the whole of 2011 the average monthly amount was EUR 64.17 M.

Migrants' remittances sent to Bulgaria in 2011 amounted to a total of EUR 770.1 M, while FDI came in at over EUR 1.34 B.

If the current trend persists, migrants' money sent to Bulgaria in 2012 will outpace FDI.
