The Bulgarian sailors arrested Wednesday on the ship that was busted with 3 tons of cocaine in Spain could not be warned not to get on board of the ship, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has stated.
The Prime Minister confirmed that Bulgarian security forces collaborated with Spanish authorities during the operation that resulted in the capture of the SV Nikolay ship.
"It was known that they will work with a Bulgarian ship, many things were known, but we couldn't tell the sailors 'Flee the ship, because they'll capture it!" Borisov told reporters on Thursday.
Upon asked whether the Bulgarian sailors were involved in the drug smuggling operation, he said that even the court would have a difficult job in determining who is involved.
Next week, Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov will travel to Spain in connection to the case, Borisov revealed.
On Wednesday, Spanish authorities nabbed 31 people, including 21 Bulgarians, after seizing 3 tons of cocaine brought from South America on a ship caught off the southern coast.
6 Colombians and 4 Spaniards were also busted.
The SV Nikolay ship is owned by Burgas-based company Seaborne Trade.
The company lost its connection with the ship a day before it was captured, Seaborne Trade owner Doichin Doichev has told the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency.
