The recent meeting of representatives of the opposition in Syria in the Bulgarian town of Pravets was not unilaterally organized by Bulgaria, stated Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev.
End of May, Syrian opposition leaders met in Pravets and Sofia on the invitation of Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Mladenov.
"The meeting was organized not just by Bulgarian institutions, but also on a European level," stated Plevneliev Tuesday at the celebrations of the 135th anniversary of the Shipka Pass battles.
"There is a common Euro-Atlantic position on Syria and Bulgaria is making its contribution. This absolutely cannot be regarded as a unilateral action on our part," added Plevneliev.
The Bulgarian President also said that as an active EU and NATO member, Bulgaria is putting all efforts possible to assist for a peaceful solution of the conflict in Syria.
