Bulgarian border police have detained a group of Afghanistan nationals who entered the country illegally.

At 4.20 p.m. on Thursday, Bulgarian border police at the Kulata border crossing noticed a group of people moving between the railway tracks and the nearby filling station.

14 Afghanistan nationals were detained.

It was revealed that the group had managed to enter Bulgaria illegally from Greece on August 1.

The Afghanistan nationals are believed to have sought to use Bulgaria as a transit point to a third country.

They face administrative enforcement measures under the Foreigners Act, meaning that they will be escorted to the border and banned from entering Bulgaria for a period of 5 years.
