Record Winter Tourism Numbers Reported in Bansko
Bansko, Bulgaria's premier mountain resort, experienced a surge in winter tourism, with more than 190,000 visitors flocking to its slopes during the season
Bulgaria's mountain resort of Bansko is expected to welcome over 15 000 tourists in August, according to Georgi Ikonmov, mayor of the municipality.
In an interview for Darik radio, Ikonomov explained that the summer season was going well and voiced hopes that it would turn out better than in the previous few years.
"This summer too there will be many foreign tourists, mostly Serbs, Russians and English," Ikonomov added.
He argued that the guests of the mountain resort were attracted by the rich cultural program offered by the municipality each year.
"Bansko plans to further develop new tourist attractions," the Mayor added.
Bansko currently has a bed capacity of around 20 000 and the municipal administration expects that the hotels will be full during the Bansko Jazz Festival.
The 15th edition of the Bansko Jazz Festival is to take place on August 3-11.
At present, Russians are most interested in buying property in Bansko, while the interest of English nationals in the sphere has cooled off.
