Bulgaria: Every 5th Pregnant Woman Immediately Fired in Bulgaria

Approximately 19% of all pregnant women in Bulgaria are fired by their bosses upon revealing their pregnancy, according to a study conducted by the Global Alliance for Child's Health and Nutrition in Bulgaria.

Over 20% of all Bulgarian mothers have been forced to stop breastfeeding their children due to lack of understanding on behalf of their employers, the study also shows.

Even though the World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding until a baby is six months old, 65% of all Bulgarian mothers are forced to stop in the third month, dnevnik.bg says.

The World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from 1 to 7 August in more than 170 countries to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world.

Breastfeeding is the best way to provide newborns with the nutrients they need.
