The Friday behind-closed-doors hearing of Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, in the Parliament over the terror attack at the Burgas airport has ended with a huge scandal.
The news was reported by the largest, private TV channel bTV.
The hearing of Tsvetanov, Foreign Minister, Nikolay Mladenov, the Director of the State Agency for National Security, DANS, Konstantin Kazakov, the Director of the National Intelligence Services, Dragomir Dimitrov, and the Director of the Military Intelligence, Veselin Ivanov, has lasted over 3 hours.
The scandal flared after the Member of the Parliament from the opposition, left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, Atanas Merdzhanov, asked the Interior Minister, why he has refused on numerous occasions to appear before MPs to give account of his activities.
According to the bTV report, at this point Tsvetanov began pouncing on the banks and shouting that the socialists are populists in saying the attack could have been prevented, but have failed to propose a single text on national security. He then stormed out of the Parliament.
Merdzhanov labeled the Minister's behavior "hysterical," stressing someone who fails in anger management could hardly lead the Interior Ministry and handle the country's security in such crucial moment.
Another official, Foreign Minister, Nikolay Mladenov, had also lost his cool during the same hearing, and had called independent MP, Todor Velikov, an idiot, Pressa (Press) daily writes.
Mladenov has become enraged after Velikov demanded his resignation over inadequate foreign policy. The MP now says the independents in the Parliament might reconsider their support for the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB.
The country's top diplomat also left the Parliament in a hurry and has not been reached for comments on a possible apology.
The July 18 terrorist attack in Bulgaria's Burgas, also known as the Burgas Bus Bombing, killed 5 Israeli tourists and a Bulgarian bus driver at the Sarafovo Airport.
GERB leader Boyko Borissov reacted to the fall of the Zhelyazkov government during a live broadcast on his official Facebook page, following the mass protests across the country.
The government is making a second clumsy attempt to introduce the state budget.
